Meaning number 1: to start crying. For example, every time I watch the film Bambi and her mother dies, I break down and I start crying.
Meaning number 2: to stop working. For example, once I was going up a hill with my motorbike and there was a fat girl sitting behind so my motorbike broke down.
And meaning number 3: To end negotiations unsuccessfully. The talks between management and the unions broke down.
