Script (guión): Phrasal verbs, ‘Get off’. This has Five main meanings.
Meaning One: To escape a punishment. If a man is accused of a crime and goes to court and is found to be not guilty we may say, ‘He got off with it.’
Meaning Two: To leave a bus, train or plane. For example, ‘We got off the bus at Oxford Street.’
Meaning Three: To finish or leave work. If I want to know what time my friend finishes work, I might say to him, ‘What time do you get off?’
Meaning Four: To help a child or baby sleep. If a father comes downstairs after putting his child to bed, the mother may say, ‘Did she get off to sleep ok?’
Meaning Five: To stop talking on the phone. If a teenage daughter is on the phone for too long then her father may say, ‘Get off the phone.’
