Brays Video Collection – English Phrasal Verbs, Take in
Script (guión): Phrasal verbs, ‘take in’, which has three meanings.
Meaning one: to absorb information. I went to a lecture this morning on sign language but I didn't take much in as I'd forgotten my glasses and was sat at the back so I had to borrow some notes from a friend.
Meaning two: to deceive or cheat someone. I gave money generously to a guy living on the street after he told me his story, however, I realised later I'd been taken in as I saw him getting changed into a suit and getting into the seat of a Jaguar.
Meaning three: is to assume care or support. My family have just taken in three homeless kittens which they have named, Barry, Robin and Morris after the Bee Gees.
