To clean oneself is meaning 1. A mother may say to her children, ‘Make sure you wash up before dinner.’
Meaning 2, more commonly this phrasal verb is used when referring to cleaning plates or pans after dinner. For example, I might say to my girlfriend, ‘It's your turn to wash up. I washed up last night and I also cooked dinner tonight.’
