GRAMATICA INGLES clauses

USO: Cuando una frase contiene mas de un verbo finito (ej. VERBO con su propio SUJETO), esta se divide en CLAUSULAS.
Cada CLAUSULA contiene un SUJETO y un verbo. La primera CLAUSULA de la frase, por lo general, es la CLAUSULA PRINCIPAL, las demás son CLAUSULAS SUBORDINADAS.
Dos tipos comunes de CLAUSULAS SUBORDINADAS son las CLAUSULAS SUSTANTIVAS y CLAUSULAS ADVERBIALES.

EJEMPLOS

‘I think that your new pants are gorgeous.’
‘Why don't you call when you're late?’
‘Sorry. I had to go home after I finished work.’

NOUN CLAUSES

USO: Una CLAUSULA SUSTANTIVA por lo general contiene nueva información o una pregunta que ha sido introducida por la CLAUSULA PRINCIPAL.

EJEMPLOS

‘I think that your mother is wonderful!’
‘I don't know who he is.’

ABVERB CLAUSES

USO: Una CLAUSULA ADVERBIAL por lo general contiene informacion acerca del verbo de la CLAUSULA PRINCIPAL.

EJEMPLOS

‘He ate a hamburger because he was hungry.’
‘They spoke very slowly so that we could understand.’
‘I always cry when I watch a sad film.’
