Uso del presente de "to be": Para conectar el sujeto con el resto de la frase

Ejemplos:
"Are you the owner?"
"No, I'm not. He's the owner."

AFIRMATIVO

Forma: SUJETO + BE + RESTO DE LA FRASE

I am relaxing.
You are very good looking.
He/She/It is there.
We/You/They are at school

NEGATIVO

Forma: SUJETO + BE + NOT + RESTO DE LA FRASE

I am not an active person.
You are not good.
He/She/It is not there.
We/You/They are not at the pool.

POSITIVE CONTRACTIONS

I'm here.
You're here.
He's/She's/It's here.
We're/You're/They're here.

NEGATIVE CONTRACTIONS

I'm not here.
You're not here. You aren't here.
He's/She's/It's not here. He/She/It isn't here.
We're/You're/They're not here. We/You/They aren't here.

YES/NO QUESTIONS

Uso: Para hacer preguntas que necesitan una respuesta positiva o negativa. El sujeto y el verbo "BE" cambian de lugar.

Afirmativa: He is at the hotel.
Yes/No Question: Is he at the hotel?
Afirmativa: They are at home now.
Yes/No Question:Are they at home now?

POSITIVE SHORT ANSWERS

Uso: Para dar una respuesta positiva a una pregunta sí/no (nunca se usa con contracciones).

Forma: YES + SUJETO + BE

Yes, I am.
Yes, you are.
Yes, he/she/it is.
Yes, we/you/they are.

NEGATIVE SHORT ANSWERS

Uso: Para dar una respuesta negativa a una pregunta sí/no (a menudo usada con contracciones).

Forma: NO + SUJETO + BE + N'T

No, I'm not.
No, you're not. No, you aren't.
No, he's not. No, he isn't.
No, it's not. No, it isn't.
No, we're not. No, we aren't.
No, you're not. No, you aren't.
No, they're not. No, they aren't.

WH QUESTIONS

Uso: Para hacer una pregunta que comienza con estas palabras interrogativas: What, When, Where, Who, Why, How

Forma: PALABRA INTERROGATIVA + BE + SUJETO + RESTO

NOTA: el sujeto y el verbo cambian de lugar

They are at work at the moment.
Are they at work at the moment?
Where are they now? (WH-question)

TAG QUESTIONS

Uso: Para hacer una pregunta que requiere una respuesta sí/no cuando ya se espera una determinada respuesta. Añada una pregunta corta de dos palabras al final de la frase.

Forma: Si se espera un "yes": FRASE AFIRMATIVA + BE + N'T + SUJETO
Si se espera un "no": FRASE NEGATIVA + BE + SUJETO
